This week in Harrisburg, we honored the many young lives impacted by child abuse. I urge you to speak up when something feels wrong, support the families around you and help raise awareness throughout April. Together, we can protect children and prevent these tragedies before they begin.
On March 30, students from the Emory H. Markle Middle School orchestra performed in the Capitol. Their visit was part of Music in Our Schools Month, a nationwide initiative to promote the importance of music education.
On March 24, a bi-partisan group of lawmakers announced the formation of the bicameral Anti-Human Trafficking Caucus. I had the opportunity to speak about our endorsement of House Bill 910, which would upgrade the offense of trafficking infants from a first-degree misdemeanor to a first-degree felony.
On March 10, Senate Bill 9, the Save Women's Sports Act, was re-referred to the House Children and Youth Committee. This is the third time House Democrats avoided a vote on the bill using procedural maneuvers. I will continue to advocate fiercely for girls, so they have the opportunity to compete on a level playing field. I will push for this legislation to finally be brought to a vote in the committee I co-chair.
On March 4, I participated in a budget hearing with DHS. I had the opportunity to ask Secretary Valerie Arkoosh about transparency and oversight of the state’s child care recruitment and retention program for providers.
To the residents of the 169th District, thank you for the honor of serving as your voice in Harrisburg. From my family to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a joyful, healthy New Year.
Even during the holiday season, the House Republican Caucus is working to make child care more affordable and reliable for Pennsylvania families.
Three bills I'm working on with Rep. Melissa Shusterman (D-Chester) and Rep. Christina Sappey (D-Chester) received bipartisan support by the House Judiciary Committee. We're working together to protect animals, ensure justice is served to individuals who violate our laws, and also protect children and family members, as there is frequently a correlation between these types of crimes and the abuse of people.
The 2025-26 state budget is now over 100 days late. We NEED to reach a compromise that doesn’t result in tax increases for you and your family.
