HANOVER—Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and UPMC in Central PA announced a state grant today that will continue the renovation project to create a secure behavioral health and crisis suite at UPMC Hanover.
The $1 million grant will be used to renovate UPMC Hanover’s behavior health facilities. The renovations will include additional treatment rooms to accommodate more patients and greater lengths of stay, a safer treatment area for clinicians and staff, and seclusion rooms that meet current building code standards. It will also include new mechanical and electrical system upgrades.
“UPMC provides essential health care services for Hanover-area residents and Pennsylvanians across the state. That health care, now more than ever before extends to mental well-being. One’s physical health is just as critical as their mental health. I am grateful UPMC shares that philosophy and is continuing its work to create a new suite that will further help hospital staff provide the care patients deserve,” said Klunk.
“We are grateful for this funding and for Representative Klunk’s advocacy on UPMC’s behalf,” said Michael Gaskins, president of UPMC Hanover. “Behavioral health conditions are among the most common conditions in the nation. In the recently published Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) and Implementation Plans, behavioral health was identified as a significant health need for Hanover and surrounding areas. We have been seeing an increase in behavioral health and crisis patients over the past decade. This renovation is necessary to manage the needs of the ever-growing Hanover community. A safe and private space for patients will further improve the overall patient experience and outcomes at UPMC Hanover.”
The grant was awarded as a part of the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, which is administered by the Office of the Budget. This program supports the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historic improvement projects.
