Klunk Announces Grant for Local Veterans Organization
HANOVER – A Hanover-based veterans support organization is the recipient of a $35,000 grant to aid veterans in need and troops who are on deployment, Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) announced.

For the Love of a Veteran Inc. received a $35,000 grant from the Veterans Trust Fund (VTF). The funding will be used for care packages to be sent to deployed troops and homeless veterans.

“We were very honored to receive this grant. When I received the email stating we were awarded it I was speechless,” said Christine Waltz, who founded For the Love of a Veteran. “This will help to send so many packages to our heroes. This will keep us from worrying about how we will get all the packages shipped.”

For the Love of a Veteran is currently sending care packages to 3,000 members of the armed services who are deployed and is expecting to receive requests to have packages to be sent to more than 500 members. Last year, the organization sent about 13 tons of packages to active duty personnel and is expecting to double the figure this year. In addition, For the Love a Veteran recently supplied nearly 300 packages to veterans in need.

“For the Love of a Veteran does so much for our veterans and active duty military personnel,” Klunk said. “This grant will undoubtedly be put to good use providing support to those who have served us or are currently serving.”

The VTF is funded by Pennsylvanians who voluntarily make a $3 donation when applying for or renewing their driver’s license, photo ID, or a motor vehicle registration. The fund also receives proceeds from the sale of the Honoring Our Veterans license plate, as well as from private donations.
