Klunk Named Deputy Whip, Appointed to Serve on Key House Committees
1/24/2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) was appointed to serve on five key House committees during the 2019-20 legislative session and was named a Deputy Whip by Majority Whip Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin). She will serve on the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Health, Judiciary, Labor and Industry, and Rules committees.

“I am excited to serve as a deputy whip to help ensure key legislation is passed,” Klunk said. “As a trained attorney, I will bring real-world experience to the Judiciary Committee. Since the 169th District is very rural but is also a hub of industry, I will be able to bring a unique perspective to the Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Labor and Industry committees.”

Deputy whips have diverse tasks, including whipping up support for important pieces of legislation and informing their fellow Republican colleagues on upcoming policy issues.

The Health Committee focuses on issues such as abortion, disease management, health savings accounts, hospital-acquired infections, Medical Assistance, patient safety, pharmaceutical issues, telemedicine, and much more. The Rules Committee, which includes Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) as members, is tasked with making recommendations to improve and expedite procedures of the House and its committees.

“As a member of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Judiciary, and Labor and Industry committees last session, I am excited to continue the work we started,” Klunk said. “I look forward to ensuring residents’ interests are conveyed in the Legislature through my seat on all the committees.”
