Hanover Chamber Receives Grant for Workforce Development, Klunk Says
HANOVER – To help ensure the longevity of Hanover’s manufacturing industry, a $45,495 state grant was award to the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce to foster and grow apprenticeship programs.

“The Hanover Chamber of Commerce is pleased to accept this grant from the state. Funding from grants like this allows the chamber to invest in Hanover’s future workforce. Specifically, this grant will go toward the purchasing of equipment for both Hanover and South Western high schools, both of which are in need of equipment updates to accommodate our apprenticeship program as it gains students each semester,” said Gary Laird, president of the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce.

The grant award comes as the House of Representatives is moving a bipartisan nine-bill package of legislation to improve the career and technical education (CTE) opportunities in the Commonwealth to help prepare students and workers for the in-demand, family-sustaining jobs of the future, Klunk noted.

“This grant will provide immediate assistance to school districts with existing programs here in Hanover. These schools are on the forefront of helping develop students to meet the workforce demands of today and tomorrow,” Klunk said. “This package of bills would greatly build on the good work these schools are already doing. I look forward to voting in favor of these bills next week.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry awarded the grant to the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce through the Local Workforce Development Board. Funding the chamber received is earmarked to improve and expand workforce development programs.
